Her Story

Imagine not having the ability to do anything for yourself. Imagine depending on others for all of your needs. Meet Lauren Elizabeth Compere. Lauren was born on April 7, 1993 at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS. Dreams of having a healthy child were soon shattered when parents, Richard and Lisa, learned their daughter would be a catastrophically disabled quadriplegic confined to a wheelchair. Life is hard when everything is great, much less when things are broken. Over the years, Lauren has struggled with loneliness, depression, and identity in disability. However, on a daily basis, she overcomes challenges, re-defines “normal”, inspires others, and advocates for people affected by disabilities. Lauren attributes her accomplishments, success, and victories to her faith in God and supportive family, who have never allowed her to give up. Lauren obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Mississippi College and is one of the founders of One Shred of Hope, a non-profit ministry in Clinton, MS that provides jobs and housing communities for people with disabilities. Lauren never has and never will allow her circumstances to define her. We invite you to join the journey, because the best is yet to come!
